Help Your Teen Be Heard: Talk Less and Listen More!
Posted on September 27, 2010 by admin
Yup it is true. Just like the rest of us, your daughter wants to be respected and heard. Be a “safe” and available person to talk to. Offer space and time to have her thoughts and opinions heard.
Even if you don’t agree with them, you are allowing them to be heard and allowing her to feel understood. Keep these four pointers in mind when listening to your girl.
1) Listen openly, before passing judgment.
2) Listen for her point of view.
3) Listen for the underlying issue.
4) Keep the focus on your girl and off of yourself.
Taking these steps translates into feeling more loved, supported and validated. What a wonderful gift to give your child.
